Thanks to this website, I found a lot of people, who are also collecting
pacifiers (dummies/comforters) or would like to do so. And now, because I am
getting asked a lot of questions lately, I would like to get some things off my
chest.
Collecting pacifiers (dummies/comforters)
Why are you collecting in the first place?
I am collecting because of the
aesthetic, meaning the
prettiness of the objects.
Why pacifiers?
Little
kids (of friends or neighbors), who used to visit us frequently, often left them
at our house. I always wanted to give them back the next time they came, but
mostly I forgot about it. Thus, I had more and more lying around and because I
liked the colors and the motives, I started collecting them.
Meanwhile
my collection has risen to several thousand pieces, thanks to some mothers, my
folks and the people I trade the pacifiers with or from which I buy them.
You
really have a nice collection there. I wanted to send you some of my
son’s/daughter’s used ones, but you already have them all.
Never mind if I already have them, I always need some doubles to trade them.
Most of the collectors I know by now are only collecting secretly – probably
because they think it’s awkward. But they do have some rare pacifiers that I
don’t have yet. That’s why I need doubles to be able to trade with other
collectors.
I
personally still use a pacifier.
I don’t think it’s wrong if you do and I won’t judge you for still using a
pacifier. But I am not the right go-to guy concerning this subject, because I
only collect them.
So please only write to me about collecting and trading.
How
much would you pay for a used pacifier?
Of course, those things aren’t cheap and with kids, you can use every penny. I
have kids on my own, too, and know that perfectly well. That’s why I beg you, if
you don’t just want to give already used pacifiers away, but want to sell
them, do so somewhere else on the web. I can only buy pacifiers that I DON’T
already have, meaning only old or rare ones. For those I happily pay an
appropriate price.
I don’t have money for more, because I have a family that I love.
You would also throw your partner out if s/he would put all his wages into their
collection.
But, if
you like, I am always ready to trade the pacifiers of your kids with one of my
collection, so you will be able to tell your kids one day that this one once
belonged to them.
I have already gotten a lot of these used ones, from children that I know and
also from strangers, who wanted to help me. For me, it even increases the value
of such a collection, because it gets a personal note. And you certainly can’t
say that about many collections.
In
return, I can offer you to mention your child (or you) by name on my website. I
would need a written permission of you, though, since this is a public website.
I am
thrilled about EVERY pacifier.
Although I am only collecting NUK, it doesn’t mean that I can’t also use
pacifiers from other brands.
But I only try to get every single one from NUK; this is my first priority in
order to be able to have a complete collection one day, which is the main desire
of every collector’s heart.
Why NUK?
As a child, I had a NUK-pacifier myself. My kids had only pacifiers from NUK.
I am a great believer in this brand, since these pacifiers have an
orthodontic shape.
That’s why I feel a personal connection to this brand.
I’ve seen that you also have pictures of baby’s bottles on your website. Are you
collecting them, too?
Actually, no. There were people who send them to me, together with the
pacifiers, and I just liked them. That’s why I put them to the pacifiers, they
just look so pretty.
Some people even sent me diapers, changing mats and other, unused things. I gave
them away, though, if they were still usable.
I want to ask you at this point – if you want to give me a treat – please only
send pacifiers to me (maybe baby’s bottles at the most). Nothing else please, I
do not collect it and thus don’t have a use for it.
Send a used pacifier or throw it away?
If you’re pondering what to do now, of course I can only give you reasons for
sending those pacifiers to me:
The trash can doesn’t say “Thank you” and you cannot go to the dumping
ground with your kids and tell them “This pacifier once belonged to you”,
because it’s gonna be destroyed there forever.
But if you send this pacifier to me, you even make a small contribution to avoid
waste and you can always say “I helped this guy with his collection” when
you visit my website.
And this is even an appreciation for me, in some sort of way, and encourages me
to continue collecting, even though it may be a little out of the ordinary.
I am gladly willing to pay the
postage and packing, if you
want to send me some pacifiers.
Just drop me a line! Tell me, how many pacifiers you want to send to me and what
expenses this means for you. If you give me your bank details, I will transfer
the money to your account upon receipt of the package.
I am especially looking for parents from
the USA, who are willing to send some used pacifiers to me or to trade them with
me.
This is really important to me, because I love the motives of the American
pacifiers. I already have a lot of them and really want to complete my
collection of American pacifiers. I am mainly looking for pacifiers from NUK,
but I gladly take other brands as well. I would be so grateful, if you could
help me with one of my dearest wishes. As I said, I’ll happily pay the postage
and packing – so please, before you trash them; drop me a line, if you have some
pacifiers lying around.
But:
If you already know my address, please don’t send anything to me that is not
prepaid. I cannot accept those mail items, as I don’t know what’s inside and if
it’s worth the postage.
Sewing
Why are you sewing doll clothes?
I don’t really watch TV, because either it’s the
umpteenth repetition of a
movie or I am not
interested in it. I don’t watch sports shows, either, because I am not too keen
to know who is sweating there. And I don’t like sitting in front of the PC all
night long to play games.
But I am quite creative and like to do some fiddly work and so I discovered
sewing and embroidering for me.
I can delight a children’s heart with it and so even do a good deed.
That’s why I am sewing doll clothes.
But:
I can’t sew those things for everyone, because it would quickly be too much and
I would need to register a business. And then it’s not just a hobby anymore.
But I love to get mails in which people are telling me that they like the doll
clothes I made.
I may be encouraged to post even more pictures of my work here, so that some
people may find a nice piece that they want to try out themselves, too.
I have to
say here that I do have the impression that women unfortunately don’t dare to
ask a man how to sew those things. It seems to me that it’s not socially
acceptable – “men and sewing”. :o)
Photographing
Photographing is also just a hobby for me.
I take pictures of people, too. But there is a certain border concerning the
web.
If you enter my full name into an
advanced search engine,
you’ll also find pictures of people that I took. I do that for some clubs that I
support on a voluntary basis and they are responsible, once they get the
pictures. The same applies to pictures of families that you can find on certain
websites.
Website
Why
did you create this website in the first place?
Initially, I only used it to make urgent pictures available to others, because
they are often too big to send them via E-Mail. But I use other ways by now.
Then I used this website to show other collectors some pictures of my collection
in order to be able to trade them, because I couldn’t send them via E-Mail
(because of their size), either. I soon realized that those pictures also
appeared in the advanced search engines and got a lot of mails with questions
and feedback to my collection. That way I got to know many nice people, who are
still supporting me.
The
people, who know me quite well, are aware that I am collecting pacifiers, anyway
- so I don’t feel the need to hide my unusual hobby.
I have
also realized that there are a lot of really lovely people out there, who are
interested in collecting pacifiers and there are also the ones who have sent me
some pacifiers – I was just so grateful for all the support that I thought I
could make a website for those people.
Of course I
also created this website to be able to encourage even more people to send me
their old/used pacifiers in order to be able to give them to other collectors,
who don’t dare to buy some for themselves or to ask the public, since there are
a lot of people out there who get all this just wrong.
But I am
convinced that there are a lot of things in the museums today that wouldn’t be
there without us collectors.
And I am
still hopeful to be able to expand my website by another page soon, which I
could use under the headline “pacifiers
for free” – to help others who want to collect pacifiers as well.

I do hope
I could answer some questions here. As you can see from the number of the
questions, from time to time I do receive E- Mails from people who visit my
website and occupy themselves with it. But you can tell from the hit counter
that there are actually so many more people visiting my website. I created this
Q&A-page with a lot effort to be able to also answer questions to people who
don’t dare to ask them.
